what's on my chip?I’m going to do my best in the next few weeks to tackle several of the new restaurants that have opened lately so you’re all aware of any changes to the burger landscape of Vegas. One such place is Echo & Rig in the ever-failing Tivoli Village in Summerlin. It was just reported this week that Ogden’s highly anticipated Hops & Harvest has already closed after only 6 months, and I’m always hearing rumors of poor sales and empty seats at many other venues within this miserable shopping area. That being said, I’ve heard Echo serves up some delicious steaks and the butcher stand concept sounded pretty interesting, so do they serve up an equally decent burger? continue reading »

Café Cortez

backyard burger?In the world of old school ambiance and institutions I’m here today to talk about Café Cortez inside the El Cortez Hotel. In the 9+ years I have lived here, I have somehow never stepped foot in the building until this visit, and I’ve definitely been missing out. I’m already a huge fan of all things Fremont (aside from the hipsters) and have spent quite a lot of time there, so I knew the second I walked in that I had found the perfect new lunch spot to add to my rotation downtown. where's my fries?

I hate straying from my always growing burger to-do list, but I was recently out at lunch with some contractors and there happened to be a burger lunch special at the Mexican restaurant we were eating at so I was peer pressured into it. I try to plan my burger meals around my work schedule or where I’ll be during parts of the week, so I figured walking into Tacos & Tequila at the Luxor I’d be able to avoid an unplanned burger and mess up my plans later in the week. Other than the Double Del at Del Taco, I can’t say I’ve had many burgers at Mexican restaurants so I really wasn’t expecting much, but couldn’t say no to the audience at my table that wanted to witness a burger review in the making.
