MTO Café

April 9th, 2014 by Erik Chudy

looks goodIn my last review, I declared the burger at Pizza Rock the best in the downtown area, although I had not yet eaten all of them in the vicinity. I’ve eaten almost all of the notable burgers along Fremont St and the surrounding areas, but haven’t yet made my way over to MTO Café until now. MTO is a newer restaurant serving an area of downtown that doesn’t have much of a selection. I’ve heard a lot of buzz about this place both online and through some fans, so was this an unfair, premature statement? continue reading »

Bobby’s Burger Palace

February 26th, 2014 by Erik Chudy

huge!More exciting for me than Batali’s new burger joint, Bobby’s Burger Palace just opened at the Mandarin a couple weeks ago. While this is a bit of chain, there are several items exclusive to the Vegas menu and I must review all things burger in town either way. I’ve been to the Massachusetts location a couple times now, and was more than happy with my experience so I knew this would be a good addition to the burger scene in town. The location was a bit questionable as a restaurant placed at the sidewalk directly on the Strip surely doesn’t appeal to a local, so could the concept be as good as the execution? continue reading »

Al’s Beef

February 12th, 2014 by Erik Chudy

messy burger!Chalking this review up to a matter of convenience and location, I recently found myself on the West side of Sahara near the newly-opened Al’s Beef and decided to give it a shot. A couple weeks ago a friend took me to Braddah’s next door, and someone mentioned Al’s after seeing my check-in. I don’t think I would have bothered coming here, but after reading about the opening on Eater and then having it suggested by a reader I figured I might as well. Besides, a restaurant that has the word ‘beef’ in its name must serve a decent burger? continue reading »

SkinnyFats

November 11th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

looks pretty good!I still have a handful of burgers on my to-do list including some on-Strip steakhouses that potentially have good yet expensive burgers, and maybe a couple of local’s spots that some friends swear by in town, but I think I’ve pretty much handled just about any burger worth eating in Vegas at this point. Still, new restaurants keep popping up all over town, so my work to review what’s out there will never cease. One of the newest hot spots that’s been frequently mentioned by many of my friends is SkinnyFats, which also happens to have a massive burger on their menu. So once again I ventured out for a lunch to try this latest offering to the burger world, and come back with my full report just for you. continue reading »

Du-Pars Restaurant and Bakery

October 24th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

bacon! After experiencing a severely disappointing burger adventure a couple months ago on Fremont St, I’ve been a bit hesitant to venture back over to some of the other recommended old school restaurants and test their burgers. El Cortez didn’t disappoint, but it didn’t have any of the fanfare that places like Du-Par’s have been getting from some local supporters. With little motivation to travel too far away from my office the other day, I broke down and decided to walk over to Fremont and give Du-Par’s a shot. And I’m actually glad I did. continue reading »

Gordon Biersch

October 17th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

looks greatIf you’ve lived in Vegas for any length of time you have probably been invited to join a group of coworkers for Happy Hour at Gordon Biersch at some point. I’ve been there countless times in the 9+ years I’ve lived here for going away parties, or just random group gatherings, but never gave much thought to the quality of the food. So when I was recently sent over there during the day for another work related item, the suggestion arose for me to take the opportunity and check out the burger. I can’t say anyone has mentioned their burger to me throughout my time as ‘burger blogger’, so I was a bit skeptical by this idea but gladly took on the challenge as I always do. continue reading »

Café Cortez

August 9th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

backyard burger? In the world of old school ambiance and institutions I’m here today to talk about Café Cortez inside the El Cortez Hotel. In the 9+ years I have lived here, I have somehow never stepped foot in the building until this visit, and I’ve definitely been missing out. I’m already a huge fan of all things Fremont (aside from the hipsters) and have spent quite a lot of time there, so I knew the second I walked in that I had found the perfect new lunch spot to add to my rotation downtown. If they had a decent burger it would just be a plus. continue reading »
