B&B Burger & Beer

January 16th, 2014 by Erik Chudy

strange garnishBecause Vegas didn’t have quite enough celebrity-backed burger joints, the Venetian recently opened the tongue-twisting B&B Burger and Beer by Batali and Bastianich. This restaurant replaces the short lived and highly touted Rattlecan, which served some fantastic burgers and had a great interior. There was a lot of drama surrounding their early demise, but rumors flew around of the space not being what the Venetian wanted to display, and other odd things. That rumor is slightly hard to believe when you look at the atrocity of design close by that is the Bourbon Room, so who knows. Regardless, this duo provides some great meals in other locations within the property and throughout other parts of the country, so surely it would be a good replacement? Continue Reading »

Hennessey’s Tavern

January 8th, 2014 by Erik Chudy

looks okThis week I’m going to skip covering some of the newly-opened restaurants in town to deal with another place that boldly advertises its burger as “voted best burger in Las Vegas” on a colorful banner right on the corner of Fremont Street and Las Vegas Blvd. I’m definitely not aware of everything going on in town burger-wise, but by being the self-titled ‘burger guy’ for Vegas I’m fairly aware of most contests that would elect such a title. So when my coworker pointed out one day that Hennessey’s Tavern had such a banner on their patio, I just had to look into this. I’ve had a couple folks suggest their burgers over the years, but it just hasn’t been a priority with so many more popular and generally accepted places to try. But being a glutton for punishment and fulfilling my self-induced duties, I headed over to see if they could offer a contender for the best burger in town. Continue Reading »

Stewart + Ogden

January 2nd, 2014 by Erik Chudy

what's with the bun?Happy New Year! As I said in my previous review, several restaurants have opened recently with burgers potentially worth writing about, so I’m trying to do my best to get to all of them in the next few weeks. This next one comes from the newly reopened and rebranded Downtown Grand, which added a little café called Stewart + Ogden. I’ve always been a big fan of the downtown area, but with all its hype in the past year or two I feel like there is still a lack of decent restaurants. The Grand’s simple, yet cool remodel brought a great new place for people to hang out on 3rd Street next to an old favorite of mine, but did they also bring a good new place to eat? Echo & Rig

December 19th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

what's on my chip?I’m going to do my best in the next few weeks to tackle several of the new restaurants that have opened lately so you’re all aware of any changes to the burger landscape of Vegas. One such place is Echo & Rig in the ever-failing Tivoli Village in Summerlin. It was just reported this week that Ogden’s highly anticipated Hops & Harvest has already closed after only 6 months, and I’m always hearing rumors of poor sales and empty seats at many other venues within this miserable shopping area. That being said, I’ve heard Echo serves up some delicious steaks and the butcher stand concept sounded pretty interesting, so do they serve up an equally decent burger? Continue Reading »

Off the Strip (Spring Valley)

December 13th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

X marks the spotSo apparently I’ve been so incredibly busy that there hasn’t been a post in over a month. My bad! I was on a good roll there for a while posting a review almost every week… There are a few new places that have opened up in the last couple weeks so I’ll do my best to get into them since we finally have something new in town to talk about, as opposed to the one you’re about to read. That probably wasn’t the best segue into this review, but I’m here to talk about an off-Strip location that happens to be called Off the Strip. In doing a quick google search there are actually two places in town with this same name, I’m referring to the location on Tropicana in a former Timbers space. Sounds intriguing already doesn’t it? SkinnyFats

November 11th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

looks pretty good!I still have a handful of burgers on my to-do list including some on-Strip steakhouses that potentially have good yet expensive burgers, and maybe a couple of local’s spots that some friends swear by in town, but I think I’ve pretty much handled just about any burger worth eating in Vegas at this point. Still, new restaurants keep popping up all over town, so my work to review what’s out there will never cease. One of the newest hot spots that’s been frequently mentioned by many of my friends is SkinnyFats, which also happens to have a massive burger on their menu. So once again I ventured out for a lunch to try this latest offering to the burger world, and come back with my full report just for you. Continue Reading »

Du-Pars Restaurant and Bakery

October 24th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

bacon! After experiencing a severely disappointing burger adventure a couple months ago on Fremont St, I’ve been a bit hesitant to venture back over to some of the other recommended old school restaurants and test their burgers. El Cortez didn’t disappoint, but it didn’t have any of the fanfare that places like Du-Par’s have been getting from some local supporters. With little motivation to travel too far away from my office the other day, I broke down and decided to walk over to Fremont and give Du-Par’s a shot. And I’m actually glad I did. Continue Reading »
