Off the Strip (Spring Valley)

December 13th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

X marks the spotSo apparently I’ve been so incredibly busy that there hasn’t been a post in over a month. My bad! I was on a good roll there for a while posting a review almost every week… There are a few new places that have opened up in the last couple weeks so I’ll do my best to get into them since we finally have something new in town to talk about, as opposed to the one you’re about to read. That probably wasn’t the best segue into this review, but I’m here to talk about an off-Strip location that happens to be called Off the Strip. In doing a quick google search there are actually two places in town with this same name, I’m referring to the location on Tropicana in a former Timbers space. Sounds intriguing already doesn’t it? continue reading »

SkinnyFats

November 11th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

looks pretty good!I still have a handful of burgers on my to-do list including some on-Strip steakhouses that potentially have good yet expensive burgers, and maybe a couple of local’s spots that some friends swear by in town, but I think I’ve pretty much handled just about any burger worth eating in Vegas at this point. Still, new restaurants keep popping up all over town, so my work to review what’s out there will never cease. One of the newest hot spots that’s been frequently mentioned by many of my friends is SkinnyFats, which also happens to have a massive burger on their menu. So once again I ventured out for a lunch to try this latest offering to the burger world, and come back with my full report just for you. continue reading »

Du-Pars Restaurant and Bakery

October 24th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

bacon! After experiencing a severely disappointing burger adventure a couple months ago on Fremont St, I’ve been a bit hesitant to venture back over to some of the other recommended old school restaurants and test their burgers. El Cortez didn’t disappoint, but it didn’t have any of the fanfare that places like Du-Par’s have been getting from some local supporters. With little motivation to travel too far away from my office the other day, I broke down and decided to walk over to Fremont and give Du-Par’s a shot. And I’m actually glad I did. continue reading »

Gordon Biersch

October 17th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

looks greatIf you’ve lived in Vegas for any length of time you have probably been invited to join a group of coworkers for Happy Hour at Gordon Biersch at some point. I’ve been there countless times in the 9+ years I’ve lived here for going away parties, or just random group gatherings, but never gave much thought to the quality of the food. So when I was recently sent over there during the day for another work related item, the suggestion arose for me to take the opportunity and check out the burger. I can’t say anyone has mentioned their burger to me throughout my time as ‘burger blogger’, so I was a bit skeptical by this idea but gladly took on the challenge as I always do. continue reading »

Rollin Smoke BBQ

September 11th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

huge! One of the things I like almost as much as burgers is a good pulled pork sandwich, so after hearing several great comments about Rollin Smoke BBQ I had to check it out. I ventured over there for lunch a few weeks ago with a hunger for some great BBQ, but as I was browsing their menu I spotted a burger with the statement “best burger in Vegas” and my focus shifted to validating this lofty claim. I think 99.9% of the time any menu that claims this about a burger, coffee or whatever the food may be never turns out to be true, but how can I truly tell until I sample it for myself? So once again I skipped my desired meal to test an unknown burger for you all. What a tough life I have. continue reading »

Gordon Ramsay BurGR (a revisit)

June 3rd, 2013 by Erik Chudy

beautiful burgerI have so many burgers on my to-do list, but after the fallout of my tournament I realize there’s a lot of places I didn’t completely enjoy the first time that may need a revisit due to overwhelming popularity. One such place is Gordon Ramsay BurGR, which has had almost four times as many page views than any other review I’ve done, and brings in dozens of visitors a day through search engines. Clearly the tourists or some demographic out there is very keen on Mr. Ramsay’s burgers more so than any other place in town. I thought the burger was definitely decent my first time, but iffy service and horrible fries didn’t leave me completely satisfied so I headed back recently to see if they’ve gotten their act together and if it really lives up to all the hype. continue reading »

Binion’s Café

May 24th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

gross sweaty cheeseI’ll keep this one short and sweet since it doesn’t deserve the full treatment based on what you get. As many of my frequent readers probably know, I recently moved my office to the downtown area which opened up an opportunity to try out a whole slew of new places. Today’s review comes from a tip a Twitter friend sent me for a supposed hidden cheap gem at Binion’s Café based on a questionable review. Cheap it was, good it wasn’t. continue reading »
