Echo & Rig

December 19th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

what's on my chip?I’m going to do my best in the next few weeks to tackle several of the new restaurants that have opened lately so you’re all aware of any changes to the burger landscape of Vegas. One such place is Echo & Rig in the ever-failing Tivoli Village in Summerlin. It was just reported this week that Ogden’s highly anticipated Hops & Harvest has already closed after only 6 months, and I’m always hearing rumors of poor sales and empty seats at many other venues within this miserable shopping area. That being said, I’ve heard Echo serves up some delicious steaks and the butcher stand concept sounded pretty interesting, so do they serve up an equally decent burger? continue reading »

Off the Strip (Spring Valley)

December 13th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

X marks the spotSo apparently I’ve been so incredibly busy that there hasn’t been a post in over a month. My bad! I was on a good roll there for a while posting a review almost every week… There are a few new places that have opened up in the last couple weeks so I’ll do my best to get into them since we finally have something new in town to talk about, as opposed to the one you’re about to read. That probably wasn’t the best segue into this review, but I’m here to talk about an off-Strip location that happens to be called Off the Strip. In doing a quick google search there are actually two places in town with this same name, I’m referring to the location on Tropicana in a former Timbers space. Sounds intriguing already doesn’t it? continue reading »

SkinnyFats

November 11th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

looks pretty good!I still have a handful of burgers on my to-do list including some on-Strip steakhouses that potentially have good yet expensive burgers, and maybe a couple of local’s spots that some friends swear by in town, but I think I’ve pretty much handled just about any burger worth eating in Vegas at this point. Still, new restaurants keep popping up all over town, so my work to review what’s out there will never cease. One of the newest hot spots that’s been frequently mentioned by many of my friends is SkinnyFats, which also happens to have a massive burger on their menu. So once again I ventured out for a lunch to try this latest offering to the burger world, and come back with my full report just for you. continue reading »

Du-Pars Restaurant and Bakery

October 24th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

bacon! After experiencing a severely disappointing burger adventure a couple months ago on Fremont St, I’ve been a bit hesitant to venture back over to some of the other recommended old school restaurants and test their burgers. El Cortez didn’t disappoint, but it didn’t have any of the fanfare that places like Du-Par’s have been getting from some local supporters. With little motivation to travel too far away from my office the other day, I broke down and decided to walk over to Fremont and give Du-Par’s a shot. And I’m actually glad I did. continue reading »

Gordon Biersch

October 17th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

looks greatIf you’ve lived in Vegas for any length of time you have probably been invited to join a group of coworkers for Happy Hour at Gordon Biersch at some point. I’ve been there countless times in the 9+ years I’ve lived here for going away parties, or just random group gatherings, but never gave much thought to the quality of the food. So when I was recently sent over there during the day for another work related item, the suggestion arose for me to take the opportunity and check out the burger. I can’t say anyone has mentioned their burger to me throughout my time as ‘burger blogger’, so I was a bit skeptical by this idea but gladly took on the challenge as I always do. continue reading »

All-Star Burger Bash at MGM Grand

October 10th, 2013 by Erik Chudy

special passAs many of you know, last week I was invited to the All-Star Burger Bash at MGM as part of their 4th Annual food & Wine All-Star Weekend. I was extremely excited coming into this, as all eight burgers sounded great. Unfortunately what I forgot, but was quickly reminded of when I started eating, is that mass-produced, rushed food events such as this rarely produce great products. We noticed many sliders were missing ingredients from one to the other, and in many cases we could rarely taste all of the ingredients listed in their descriptions. Either way we had a great time, met some awesome people, and ate tons of food! Continue reading to see a brief rundown of each slider offered. continue reading »

MGM All-Star Burger Bash Preview

October 1st, 2013 by Erik Chudy

So yesterday I got invited to the All-Star Burger Bash portion of the 4th Annual Food & Wine All-Star Weekend at MGM and I’m pretty excited. The whole thing is a 3 day long set of food-centric events at the MGM Grand, but this is really the only part that pertains to me of course. It looks like tickets are still available for several of the events, so if you’re interested definitely go check it out for yourself. I will be at the MGM Grand Pool on Saturday from 1:30-3:30 to sample the many different burgers that are being featured. Needless to say, I probably won’t be eating breakfast beforehand. continue reading »
