Broadway Burger Bar and Grill

big bun!Keeping with the theme of eating at burger joints I’ve never heard of for a reason, I recently stumbled upon Broadway Burger Bar and Grill while at the New York New York Hotel & Casino for work. I’m always excited when I come across a place that’s stayed under my radar, especially in one of the casinos right on the strip. Sadly, this one has never been mentioned to me for a reason.

Broadway is located in the little area of restaurants off the casino that is referred to as the ‘Village Streets’. The seating area is kind of an odd, almost undefined area that opens up right into the circulation around it. Since I was alone I sat at the bar which felt even more detached from any sort of restaurant space.

weird spaceAside from their website touting this as the ‘best tasting burger’, they also claim it is one of the healthiest you will ever try because the meat comes from a farm in Uruguay and is made of 100% free-range, grass fed, Estancia beef. Whatever that means. The menu offers quite a few selections of pre-designed burgers, as well as patties made from this special beef, chicken, salmon, turkey or veggie. There are also plenty of topping options, fries and salads.

great friesI went with the B3&G burger, which is your typical burger served with American cheese. Upon first bite I was surprised by the meat’s flavor, it was quite great although they cooked it far more than the medium-rare I ordered, even more than medium sadly. I really should start sending them back when this happens, but that’s part of the review I guess. If you’re a burger joint and you can’t cook my burger properly, you fail! Another lesson I learned with this meal is that I do not like American cheese on my burgers; it is far too salty and pretty pointless for a cheese. The tomatoes were ok, and the thin lettuce was nice to see since places typically give you half a head. The bun was a bit different but good; almost like a sourdough, very chewy and fresh, and just the proper ratio to the meat. Sadly with all of those factors, I just found it OK and not great.

sadly overcookedThe fries on the other hand, I can say were really good. They were thick, had great potato flavor, but got a bit greasy and undercooked towards the bottom of the basket. Overall this was an ok meal, but something was missing. The overall price of $14.95 was about typical for a restaurant on the Strip, but you can do far better at Burger Bar or Holstein’s for a similar price. If you’re at the NYNY and don’t feel like going anywhere else you’ll be ok, but don’t go out of your way for this when there are several better choices very close by.
